I Don’t Understand

Something I have noticed lately is the difference in attention that a person is able to rope around an audience.
What I mean by that is, an artist can be sketching something, and someone sitting next to them will be interested in the drawing, most of the time asking about it. When someone sees a person writing, however, they usually ignore it and/or look at them with a funny expression.
This isn’t the case every time, of course. I’ve been asked what I was writing plenty of times. I just don’t see how an artist is doing anything more spectacular than a writer. Sure, it’s a totally different skill, but they’re both remarkable talents. I don’t understand why some people look at them as being “cooler” than the other one.
Has anybody else noticed this, or am I just crazy?
